Scientific Rationale
The spectral lines, their widths, and, more generally, the shapes, are powerful
tools for emitting/absorbing gas diagnostics in different astrophysical objects,
(from the Solar system to the most distant objects in the Universe - quasars.
The emission/absorption lines of astrophysical objects are produced over a
wide range of distances from an observer and under a wide range of physical
and kinematic conditions. Therefore, in astrophysical objects the lines from
X-ray (e.g. Fe Ka) to the radio (e.g., the radio recombination lines)
wavelength range have been observed. On the other hand, the experimental and
theoretical investigations of laboratory plasma have been used in
spectroscopic astrophysical research; in particular, the same atomic data are
needed for line-shape calculations. This conference will bring together astronomers
(observers and theoreticians) and physicists from Serbia and elsewhere to review
the present stage of research, with the aim of improving our knowledge in this
field, and to better understand the significance of emission/absorption lines
for future astrophysical investigations.
The program will focus on:
- Stellar and interstellar spectral lines
- Spectral line phenomena in extragalactic objects
- Spectral lines in laboratory and general plasma
This is the 12th conference in the series. The official website of the conference is
http://servo.aob.rs/scslsa12/ or http://www.scslsa.matf.bg.ac.rs.
All materials (programme, talks, presentations, photos, etc.) from
the previous meetings are available at http://servo.aob.rs/eeditions/SCSLSA.php
through Serbian Virtual Observatory (http://servo.aob.rs).
The 5SLSP (Spectral Line Shapes in Plasmas) code comparison meeting will be
held in the same venue place, before 12th SCSLSA Conference. More information
available on the meeting website or on mirror site.
In cooperation with Open Astronomy we will organize
SPECIAL SESSION:
"Broad lines in AGNs: The physics of emission gas in the vicinity of
super-massive black hole" (In memory of the life and work of dr Alla
Ivanovna Shapovalova).
CAOSP Special Issue "Spectral line shapes in astrophysics and related topics" published Jan 2020.

Hotel Premier Aqua
Vrdnik is a small town in the Vojvodina northern province of Serbia. It
is located at southern slopes of Fruška Gora, at the border of the
national park.
Although small, it has some distinctive features: a thermal spa,
Vrdnik-Ravanica monastery from the 16th century, and a ruined castle,
known as Castellum Rednek or Vrdnička kula (Tower of Vrdnik).
For its favorable geographic position, the area of Vrdnik is suitable for
winemaking.
The venue is the Hotel Premier Aqua
